I have engaged the private Steamer Sir James Brooke on the terms tendered to me as per enclosed document. You will observe that this engagement extends only to the landing of the Detachment and of its stores at Hongkong, after which the vessel is entirely free.
4. I suggest inclosing a copy of a letter addressed to me by the Colonel Commanding the Troops in the Straits, No. 2 and No. 3.
On the subject of the probable wants and requirements of the men now proceeding to Hongkong, and as a large portion of them belong to the Native Army of India, of the peculiarities of which the several Departments in Hongkong have no experience, I would beg to call your special attention to the following portions of Col. McLeod's letter.
